Pini di Roma

A day in the countryside

Music that takes you along to the great outdoors. Beethoven named his 6th Symphony the ‘Pastoral’, because it tells the story of a day in the countryside. The imposing Pini di Roma by Ottorino Respighi likewise uses nature as its starting point: the pine trees are silent witnesses to ancient Rome and are given a voice through the music. The works of Guillaume Connesson serve as a bridge between two composers of the past: E chiaro nella valle il fiume appare describes the Italian landscape after a storm, while in Flammenschrift, the interior nature of Beethoven takes centre stage – tormented, stormy and a genius.
