Belcea Quartet - 20th birthday

This season, the Belcea Quartet are head-lining the most prestigious chamber music venues in Europe: the London Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the soon to be reopened Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. In December they are coming to Flagey to celebrate their 20th birthday with the premiere of a Flagey co-commission: Penderecki’s 4th string quartet. 

Krzysztof Penderecki is considered to be Poland’s greatest living composer who has pushed the limits of conventional musical composition with his evocative and theatrical soundworlds. It comes as no surprise that some of his music (including his quartets) have been adapted for film soundtracks such as The Shining, Fearless, Wild At Heart.
