Bright lights big city | Flagey Piano Days
The piano and the city: a combination that has inspired many composers and moved them to write a great diversity of works. Richard Danielpour composed an exciting love-hate portrait of his native city, New York. Warsaw was the city where a very young Chopin composed his 2nd Piano Concerto, shortly before he left for Paris, the City of Light. He would never again return to Poland. A nameless city, darkly decadent: that is the setting for The Miraculous Mandarin by Bartók. Wagner, in turn, takes us far from the tough city in his Tristan und Isolde, and immerses us into a medieval legend about impossible love.
