“Groslot – Stravinsky”

The local, contemporary composer Robert Groslot shares billing with the ‘old’ stars Berlioz & Stravinsky. The solo part of Groslot’s Piano Concerto demands virtuosity but is not impossible: for Groslot, himself a great pianist, the musician’s pleasure in playing is a basic requirement of his work.

The concerto is preceded and followed by ebullient feasts of sound: first a frenzied overture by Berlioz, and then Le Sacre du printemps, the great pagan sacrificial ritual with which Stravinsky turned the musical world upside down.
