Closing night: L’Effet aquatique
Premiere | Brussels Film Festival
Solveig Anspach, was discovered with Haut les Coeurs at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes, where Karin Viard played the main role of a woman with cancer with unforgettable accuracy. Almost 20 years later, the Icelandic filmmaker was caught up by disease and has left us leaving behind a light posthumous comedy, full of life, humor and love. We will close the Festival this year with this gem, which was welcomed by a standing ovation at the last Cannes Film Festival. The film tells with great happiness the meeting between Samir, a forty year old crane operator in Montreuil, falling madly in love with Agathe. As she is a swimming teacher, he decides to approach her by taking swimming lessons although he can swim perfectly fine. But the lie does not last three days - and Agathe hates liars! Nonethless he is ready to do everything to win back his beloved. Aquatic Effect won the SACD Prize at the Directors Fortnight 2016.
