All of A Sudden

Panorama Outsiders | Brussels Film Festival

Revealed at the last Berlinale, All of a Sudden by director of Turkish origin Asli Ozge, portrays a ruthless and mysterious story. When Karsten finishes a drunken night with a stranger crumbling at his feet while he was on the verge of cheating on his wife with her, he runs to the nearest clinic that happens to be closed. Karsten is then accused of not helping a person in danger. His wealthy father only thinks of keeping the family away from the scandal, his girlfriend leaves him and his friends and collegues gradually turn away from him. But after all is he guilty? The mysterious woman was a Russian immigrant, so is it after all that serious? Karsten’s world collapses inexorably. The film questions the European bourgeoisie supposedly very open about its relationship with immigrants. A flawless piece of work, a sense of framing that says a lot, and performers who brilliantly embody the characters. A drama that turns into a thriller, perfectly mastered that you should not wait to discover.
