Every year, the Fortnight pairs a group of young filmmakers from one particular country or region with their international counterparts, and tasks them to make a short film together. A call for candidates from South Africa was issued in Cannes in 2015 and four directors were selected, on the basis of interviews, during the Durban International Film Festival. They then took part in a workshop during the festival where the four met their international partners with each pair having three months to create a short film (12-15 minutes). The filming took place in Durban and Johannesburg at the end of November, and their films featured during the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.
