Paul Schrader, who originally found fame as a scriptwriter (for Scorsese, Pollack, de Palma, Peter Weir etc.), has had huge success with films such as American Gigolo and Cat People. Notwithstanding this success, he also has an interesting career of filmmaking away from the glare of the Blockbusters.
