The Long Goodbye
Ciné-club Studio 5
Philip Marlowe, the lead in Raymond Chandler’s detective novels, is a laidback private detective suspected of murder. His mishaps are set against the backdrop of Los Angeles in the early 1970s, as director Robert Altman gently mocks the genre’s accepted formula. In doing so he highlights the hypocrisy hidden beneath a veil of respectability.
