Trio Talweg is a Belgian piano trio started in 2004 that specializes in the romantic repertoire, but also in Astor Piazzolla and contemporary music. Their first CD, recorded in 2008, featured piano trios by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Not only are they keen on jazz, world music and experimental sounds, they also love the cinema. Stanley Kubrick used Schubert’s Piano Trio in E Flat major, and especially its Andante con moto, for the Barry Lyndon soundtrack. Although Kubrick never used Mendelssohn’s First Piano Trio in C Major, which the Talweg Trio will also be playing, he was a great Mendelssohn fan, using a fragment from A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
