You have three children and you want to see them playing together enthusiastically. Then encourage them to play the piano, violin and cello. They have been given pride of place throughout the history of music – in our case, French music. Lalo, Fauré and Ravel have left us with magnificent trios, in minor keys perhaps, but that should not put you off. Pain and beauty go hand in hand.
