Mercredis percutants [8+] : Wai [New-Zealand]

Maori rhythms, songs and dance : when tradition serves modernity.

Wai’s music (meaning “water” in Maori) is vocal and percussive: it has a life force that is very much typical of the dynamism and diversity of Maori culture. The musicians try to leave behind traditional stereotypes, without denying the past. Even if the music talks about ancestors, spirits, culture and tradition, it is mainly focused on today and the future, with hip-hop, reggae, funk or R&B influences.
