Brian De Palma is, without doubt, the filmmaker with the greatest claim to Hitchcock’s lineage. While Scarface is the remake of a film by another master, Howard Hawks, the brilliance of this version is all due to De Palma. With Oliver Stone’s screenplay, the tone and the violence combine to make this a great cinematic moment which redefined the gangster movie.
