Forbidden planet

The 50s were the first golden age of American sci-fi cinema. At a time when novels and comic books were looking to the skies for their subject matter, Hollywood followed suit and started churning out sci-fi productions. Forbidden Planet transports us to the 23rd century, as a spaceship from Earth discovers a new planet populated only by a scientist and his daughter. Using spectacular set designs, the director creates an absorbing film, in which a quite unexpected character becomes the star turn. This is, of course, Robby the robot, who would go on to become an icon and inspire future filmmakers from Steven Spielberg to George Lucas.
