Brilliantly adapted from Philip K. Dick, this mélange of film noir and brooding science fiction was strongly influenced by Kubrick – including, in this original cinema cut, car scenes taken from rushes to The Shining for the setting of their escape into the mountains, which was cut from later versions of the film.
