The Artemis Quartett returns to Flagey to inaugurate our series of string-quartet concerts with a tribute to Ludwig von Beethoven. And it is no coincidence that Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 will feature alongside one of the great Razumovsky quartets. Young Mendelssohn was a teenager when he had his first rapturous encounter with Beethoven’s string quartets. When he learned of the death of his idol in 1827, he wrote his famous string quartet, arguably the most passionate of his works, in just a few months.
