Impossible to summarise the plot of this film, which drifts at leisure through superimposed layers of time and interweaves dream and reality in an atmosphere that is by turns dense and poetic. At the centre is bereavement, a fugue and high ambitions for the Conservatory. Music – the piano in particular – plays an essential role. Amalric is pursuing an adventurous and totally atypical career as a director. Presented out of competition at Cannes, Hold Me Tight was acclaimed by the critics.
