Jakob Bro & 22 strings and a piece of wood
Flagey Jazz
‘Jakob Bro & 22 strings and a piece of wood’ is quite an accurate description of this ensemble’s line-up. The stringed instruments form a total of 22 strings, while the ‘piece of wood’ refers to the mouthpiece of Steven Delannoye’s saxophone. Everything started when double bass player and jazz programmer for music center De Bijloke Kristof Roseeuw invited Danish guitarist Jakob Bro. When double bass player Yannick Peeters, special guest Steven Delannoye and a string orchestra were added to the mix, a new and unique ensemble was formed that fits perfectly with Jakob Bro’s trademark dreamy and melodic pieces. The fascinating fact about this ensemble is that it’s a new line-up consisting of profound and interesting crossovers.
“Jakob has something going on, this egoless thing. There’s a quality he has as a person that allows the music to happen” (Bill Frisell)
