Flagey Piano Days
Loss, absence and death are delicate topics that, throughout the history of music, were often translated into gripping works. They pierce the soul, for sure, but also console and charm by their singular beauty. Elgar’s Cello Concerto is one of these. Although he was not involved in the war, the British composer had the sense that the First World War destroyed everything that was dear to him. This pain is palpable in his celebrated Cello Concerto: a deep sadness lies at the heart of this magnificent work.
Boris Giltburg made a lasting impression at the Queen Elisabeth Competition's last edition, which he won with flying colors. He's back with Ravel's brilliant Concerto in G.
