Deleting borders
AB and Flagey get together! Doing so with a brand-new production – ‘Deleting Borders’ by Amatorski – that went into premier earlier this year in Antwerp's International Art-campus deSingel.
During the final of Humo's Rock Rally 2010, Amatorski stood out with their original sound. Mini-debut ‘Same Stars We Shared’ was immediately warmly received and ‘Come Home’ conquered the radio. The actual debut, ‘Tbc’ from 2011, signalled a change in direction and according to RifRaf it combined “in a fascinating manner, the dreaminess of The Cranes and the warmth of The Cinematic Orchestra with the trip-hop of Portishead and the beautiful, gentle naivety of Múm.” The album was followed by the fine concert series Amatorski film, that the band wrote a new score for. Last year saw the release of the vinyl-only mini remix album ‘re:Tbc’ and the band had a competition winner write the lyrics for a new song.
In this new multimedial project Amatorski goes in search of another artistic identity. The border between past and present seems to be completely erased on the internet. But there are even more borders blurring: between artistic disciplines, between artist and audience; and since the internet started hanging out in your pocket, even the border between online and offline is blurry. Amatorski goes in search of their own path and voice in this chaotic reality. How does the 'noise' of the internet translate into the rather minimal, melancholy and soothing sound that is so typical for the band?
