Vincente Minnelli

The name of Vincente Minnelli was often cited as one of the inspirations behind last year’s box-office hit, La La Land. But while he was, with Stanley Donen, a master of musicals (a genre represented in our cycle by An American in Paris and Gigi), we should not forget the Minnelli who made powerful and poignant dramas and who was a profoundly nuanced director of actors. Notable examples include The Sandpiper and Lust for Life (which earned Anthony Quinn an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).
