Flagey chez soi: Sylvia Huang

Flagey chez soi: Sylvia Huang

From their home to yours. With ‘Flagey chez soi’ we want to continue to share the joy of music on our feeds during this uncertain time. We asked some musicians who are very close to us, to tell you how they are coping with this crisis and to record a piece of music for you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Flagey when we reopen. Until then, enjoy the music and take care!

Studio 4 has a special place in the hearts of many musicians. Especially for the Belgian violinist Sylvia Huang. Her debut in Flagey in May 2019 earned her a place in the finals and the audience prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. From her living room (and with her cat!), she plays Belgian music for us today: the Fifth Sonata for violin solo by Eugène Ysaÿe. Ysaÿe would only applaud such a thing. In addition to his legendary career, he constantly organised concerts at his home to put French and Belgian composers in the spotlight. One of his regular guest musicians was his – equally famous – pupil Mathieu Crickboom. He was very proud of his pupil and dedicated to him this beautiful sonata that expresses the dawn and a cheerful 'danse rustique'.

Expect more beautiful performances by Nelson Goerner, Élodie Vignon and Antoine Pierre in the coming days.
