8 - 14 February: #UnitedWeJazz - Week of the Belgian Music
During the Week of the Belgian Music, an initiative by VI.BE and VRT, various players from the jazz scene join forces to put the spotlight our own Belgian musicians. Through the platform jazz.be and the social media channels of the organizations involved, exciting and surprising content will be shared all week long: from photo reportages and playlists to video clips and concert recordings (by Jef Neve, Ottla, ESINAM, De Beren Gieren, Bram De Looze and many more).
"Jazz is. Jazz Leeft. Gebeurt. Beweegt." Jules Deelders words were never as poignant as they are today. Belgian jazz - like many other sectors - has been hit hard, but stayed on the move, even if it was less visible since March. A good example of what one can achieve with united forces was the ambitious Bel Jazz Fest, a two-day online event with the cream of Belgian jazz. Between the lockdowns, also small-scale, corona proof performances and even some festivals were organized. The sector proved to be inventive and determined. In the meantime, musicians continued to work on new projects, take part in residencies, new music was released, and they could give their all during livestreams.
But of course, we are all looking forward to the future. To the real work. From 8 to 14 February, Belgian jazz artists will be put in the spotlight via the Facebook pages of many participating organizations such as Bozar, Brosella, C-Mine, De Bijloke, Flagey, Gent Jazz, Jazz Middelheim, Jazz Station, Handelsbeurs, JazzLab, kunstencentrum KAAP, kunstencentrum Nona, Leuven Jazz, Met-X, Sound In Motion, VI.BE and many others. The Week of the Belgian Music is a declaration of love to our very own Belgian music. Because music is indestructible and timeless, even in times of corona.
