Brahms 4

Brussels Philharmonic, Kazushi Ono, Steven Osborne

The young Benjamin Britten meets the old Johannes Brahms: the young force, full of impatience for what the future will bring, facing the established value that looks back on what has been.

Britten wrote his only piano concerto at the age of 24 - brimming with youthful audacity and confidence, he won over the hearts of the audience. In his Fourth and final symphony, Brahms manages to definitively break away from tradition: perhaps his most finite work, in which he confronts his own death head-on.
