Who was Duyster? Executioner? Satanic sorcerer? This is the subject of a thesis by three students investigating a disturbing figure from the Middle Ages in Antwerp. The best horror cinema often comes from low-budget independent productions. This skilful Flemish found-footage film is a throwback to the horror films of the past, which gave free rein to their instincts. “Viewer discretion advised”, as discomfited reviews may have said in the past.
