Focus on Aspen Label

Brunch concerts

Not a band this time, but a label. Aspen Edities is a small, independent record house that has put itself on the map with beautifully crafted releases. The music moves between jazz and improvisation, contemporary classical, pop or folk influences, and electronics. This label night combines regulars with additional combinations of musicians from the close and slightly less close surroundings of Aspen.

Veder

No matter how dynamic and multifaceted the musicianship of euphonium player Niels Van Heertum develops, he seeks peace and simplicity in his deeply personal projects. This is also evident in Veder, his acoustic quartet. In this group Van Heertum is joined by his regular companion Ruben Machtelinckx and a wind duo full of character: Joachim Badenhorst and Eivind Lønning. Veder released its debut album Evergreen in 2017.

Nils Økland

Nils Økland is a star on the Hardangervedel, a traditional Norwegian violin with resonance strings. For a long time, he was a member of the award-winning Christian Wallumrød Ensemble. If possible, his solo work leaves an even deeper impression. In recent years, he has been a regular guest with Linus + Økland/Van Heertum/Zach. His music is virtuosic , expressive and permeated with a vast melancholy. Northern with a very authentic stamp.

RUBEN MACHTELINCKX & FREDRIK RASTEN

Two extraordinary guitarists join forces in the field of 'integral music',the  type of musicAspen Edities - of which guitarist Ruben Machtelinckx is one of the driving forces - so likes to explore. Both Machtelinckx' and Rastens' music is situated on the borderline between jazz, folk and contemporary music, in which they make inventive use of space and silence. Machtelinckx, who won a Klara Award for Best Jazz CD of the Year with Porous Structures, will experiment with intonation and the integration of several guitars at the same time during this special evening with Rasten.
