Baroque Orchestra B’Rock
Joyful sorrow
Baroque Orchestra B'Rock arose from a sense of renewal and rejuvenation in the world of early music. The core consists of about twenty musicians from Belgium and abroad, specializing in historically informed performing practice. Baroque Orchestra B'Rock distinguishes itself by a performance-oriented and style-conscious manner of playing, in which intensity and expression play a central part. The orchestra’s programme is setting works from baroque literature in a context of lesser known repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries.
After completing a successful tour with pianist Alexander Melnikov last season, B'Rock are currently implementing the second part of their Mozart project. Once again, they will be calling on a top young musician to lend a hand. This year it will be the much-praised Christian Poltéra, whose 'effortless playing' was remarked on by Gramophone Magazine. The celebrated countertenor Bejun Mehta will be making his worldwide conducting debut with this richly contrasting programme. He will be leading B'Rock through Mozart's 29th Symphony and Haydn's Trauer Symphonie. A light-hearted divertimento for strings by Mozart will in its turn be coupled with Haydn's First Cello Concerto, which brings out the many possible ways the instrument can be played.
"B'Rock are fast making themselves a reputation as one of the more exciting baroque orchestras on the continent, their contribution is every bit as lively and attentive." (Andrew Benson-Wilson, BC)
