Studio Ghibli

The Japanese animation film studio, Ghibli, was founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata (to whom Cinematek will pay homage with Anima).

With their new company, the two directors (Toei dissidents), sought to realise their artistic vision, stymied by the pace and financial demands of commercial cinema. Their gamble paid off: how their talent blossomed! Ghibli has since brought into being a wonderful, original animated universe and raised the animation bar to new heights for all audiences. This season will run during the Studio 5 afternoon sessions through the end-of-year holidays.
