Flagey chez soi: Elodie Vignon
From their home to yours. With ‘Flagey chez soi’ we want to continue to share the joy of music on our feeds during this uncertain time. We asked some musicians who are very close to us, to tell you how they are coping with this crisis and to record a piece of music for you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Flagey when we reopen. Until then, enjoy the music and take care!
Next at Flagey chez soi: pianist Elodie Vignon. She sends you her greetings from her home in Brussels while playing one of Beethoven’s own favourite compositions: Andante Favori in F major, WoO 57. This quarantine might be the perfect moment to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday by listening a lot to his music. What do you think?
Beethoven loved both composing and playing the piano. From the age of twenty-six he gradually began to lose his hearing, yet he continued to give performances during which he played his latest compositions. One of the musical works he loved to play at his concerts is this Andante Favori, originally intended as the second movement of his famous Waldstein Sonata. It is not the composer but his pupil Karl Czerny who adds 'Favori' to the title of the piece, referring to how often Beethoven played the charming piece in public.
Expect more beautiful performances by Antoine Pierre and Boris Giltburg in the coming days.
