Boris Giltburg
Beethoven sonatas cycle
In this second concert of Boris Giltburg’s Beethoven series, he performs four piano sonatas that each show a different aspect of Beethoven’s lyrical power. From the elegant clarity of the early Sonata in A, op. 2/2 to the introspective depth of the late Sonata in e minor, op. 90: in all these works there sounds a personal, almost vocal tone. The famous “Storm” sonata op. 31/2 and the Pastorale op. 28 combine intense drama with inner emotion. Giltburg’s nuanced playing and his subtle sense of form and expression make this evening a memorable stage in his exploration of Beethoven’s piano sonatas.
